What is Detailing?

‘Valeting’ and ‘detailing’ are terms that are often used when describing a high-end car cleaning service. The term ‘detailing’ does not have a set definition but it is generally understood to be a cleaning process that is meticulous and includes processes beyond valeting such as paint correction.

As the name suggests, we pay close attention to detail when cleaning your vehicle. Detailing is a lengthy process and can often take an hour or two just to clean the exterior of a small car. The interior is also treated to a wide range of services during a detail such as steam cleaning, stain removal, leather care treatment and so much more.

Why should I have my car detailed?

Detailing is one of the best things you can do for your vehicle. Not only will your vehicle have that ‘new car’ feeling, it will be protected and stay looking its best for longer. Detailing has been known to boost the resale value of a vehicle because it will be in fantastic condition and shows that it has been well looked after. Detailing can help with a wide range of gradual wear and tear such as fading paintwork, scratches, unpleasant odours, stains and worn leather.

How long will it take to have my car detailed?

The time it takes to detail your vehicle depends on several factors. The number of services that are required will have the biggest impact but the size of your vehicle can also affect the length of time it will take.

You will be given a rough estimate of how long it will take ahead of your appointment. If you need the vehicle finished by a certain time, please let us know and we will work to accommodate your needs.

How much will it cost to have my car detailed?

Premier Detailing works on a package based system rather than a tier system. The benefit of this is that you can select exactly what your vehicle needs so you’re not paying for services that aren’t required. Each service has a different price and this can vary with the size of your vehicle.

The price will be made clear to you ahead of your appointment so that you can make an informed decision about having your vehicle detailed with us. Quotes can be requested via email, WhatsApp, text or phone.

How often should I have my car detailed?

As a rough guide, it is generally advised to have a thorough exterior wash around every 6 months to remove contaminates such as tar. It is also recommended to have the interior detailed every 3 months to avoid the build up of odours and stubborn stains. Ultimately, the decision is up to you. It all depends how often you use the vehicle and what the weather conditions are like when you do.

What services/packages do I need?

We have a large selection of services designed to tackle a range of different problems. For example, if your vehicle has fabric seats that look a bit tired, the ‘Fabric Interior’ package could be just what your vehicle needs to look refreshed. Equally, if your paintwork has swirl marks or light scratches/scuffs, the ‘Paint Correction’ service will be the way to go.

If you are unsure of what would be best, we are happy to advise you. Please contact us via email, WhatsApp, text or phone for a consultation. If you let us know the make and model of the vehicle, we can give you a quote for the work at the same time.

Should I have my car detailed during the winter?

Yes! It is more important than ever to have your car detailed during the winter months to remove dirt, grime and stubborn contaminates in order to protect your paintwork. We always recommend either a wax or ceramic coating in the autumn/winter to give your vehicle an extra layer of protection against the bad weather.

What happens if there is bad weather on the day of my appointment?

Bad weather can play havoc with mobile detailing work. We will always try to book your appointment with the weather forecast in mind. However, sometimes the rain catches everyone off guard and if this happens, we will work with you to ensure that the work is completed.

Some services such as the ‘Maintenance Wash’ can still go ahead if it's raining; the cleaning can still be completed but we will not be able to dry the vehicle afterwards. In this instance, it is completely up to you if you would like the work to go ahead or be rearranged for another day.

Some services such as the ‘1-Year Ceramic Coating’ require the vehicle to be dry and so cannot be completed in the rain. In this instance, you will be contacted and asked to select another date that is convenient for you.

What do I need to provide?

As a mobile service, we need access to a power supply and a water supply (outside tap) in order to complete any detailing work. We bring our own extension leads and hose pipes and we set these up at the beginning of the appointment. We also require a safe place to work in; a driveway is ideal but not essential. We are unable to work on busy main roads, very narrow roads and in public car parks.

What do I need to do to prepare my vehicle for detailing?

There is very little that you need to do to prepare your vehicle. We do ask that you remove any personal possessions and valuables from the vehicle, particularly if the interior is being detailed. This not only helps to keep your belongings safe, but also helps the work to be done quicker.

What products do you use?

We primarily use a selection of products from Autoglym, Meguiar’s, Auto Finesse and Autobrite Direct. Every product has been tested on private vehicles before being put to use at Premier Detailing to ensure the very best results. We mix and match products from different manufacturers based on what we think is the best in each category. We like to use pH neutral products wherever possible so that cleaning work is kind to your car and also safe to use with products such as ceramic coatings.

What is paint correction?

Paint correction is the process of removing light scratches and swirl marks from your vehicle’s paintwork by using a machine polisher. Paint correction can vary depending on the type of vehicle that you have due to differing levels of paint hardness. For example, most German cars have hard paint and so they require a two or three stage paint correction process.

We use three separate compounds with matching polishing pads, all of varying cutting harshness. If your vehicle has hard paint, it may require the harshest compound first, followed by the medium and then by the least intense compound. If your vehicle has soft paint, it may only need the least intense compound over the bodywork.

Visit the paint correction page for more information.

What is a ceramic coating?

Ceramic coatings provide a new layer that bonds to the surface of the paintwork, offering protection from UV rays, acidic contaminants and general dirt and grime. It is more durable than a wax coating but is the more expensive option. Please enquire if you are unsure as to whether or not your vehicle would benefit from a ceramic coating.

Visit the 1-Year Ceramic Coating page for more information.

What is the double bucket method?

The double bucket method is the safest way to wash a vehicle. We use lambswool wash mitts as an extra level of protection too. It significantly reduces the chance of swirl marks being added to the vehicle during a wash. The double bucket method is set up so that one bucket has clean water with a grit guard at the bottom to catch dirt/grit and the other bucket contains the shampoo mixture. The wash mitt is dipped into the shampoo and then a small section of the vehicle is cleaned. The wash mitt is then rinsed off in the other bucket so that the dirt is caught by the grit guard. The wash mitt will then be dipped into the shampoo and the process continues. This means that abrasive dirt and grit will not be put back onto the vehicle during the wash and that is what makes the process so safe.

How do I pay?

Payment will be taken at the end of your appointment. We operate as a cashless business and only take card payments. We have mobile card readers with contactless capability.
